Ratno Suprapto, S.Sn., M.Ds.

Scientific Coordinator and Lecturer of Department of Visual Communication Design

Ratno Suprapto, S.Sn., M.Ds. completed his bachelor's degree in Visual Communication Design, then continued his studies with a Master's degree in Design at ITB. He is active as a lecturer and practitioner in the field of visual communication design, with an interest in visual strategy, brand identity, and the study of visual representation in media and advertising.

His research interests focus on the exploration of symbolic and narrative elements in visual media, particularly within the context of popular culture and the creative industry in Indonesia. His publications include analyses of the visual identities of professional football clubs, death metal music album covers, and the use of visual metaphors in television advertising. He also examines the use of animal characters as a form of endorsement in advertising, as well as creative strategies with a Unique Selling Proposition approach in automotive advertising campaigns. Through his works, Ratno highlights the interconnection between design, visual messages, and socio-cultural contexts in visual communication practices in Indonesia.

Retno Purwanti M. S.Sn., M.Ds.

Head and Lecturer of Department of Visual Communication Design

Retno Purwanti M. S.Sn., M.Ds. completed her Master's degree in Design in 2013 at Trisakti University. Her professional career began as an art director and illustrator in print media, then expanded into the world of broadcasting as a motion graphic designer at SCTV for more than ten years. Since 2007, she has been actively teaching as a part-time lecturer at various private universities, eventually becoming a full-time lecturer at Universitas Pembangunan Jaya after completing her master's degree. Her extensive experience as a design practitioner and educator shapes her approach to integrating academic and industry aspects in visual communication design.

His research interests focus on sustainable design, community empowerment through design, and visual approaches as tools for social and educational communication. His publications cover topics such as the implementation of sustainable design in contemporary masks made from recycled paper, the design of signage systems for educational institutions, and visual design for visual stimulation in children with strabismus. She has also written about board games as a medium for social learning, animated videos as traffic safety campaigns, and awareness of the dangers of beauty standards in cosmetic advertisements. Through her work, she highlights the potential of design as a medium for empowerment, education, and social transformation in urban Indonesian society.

Rifki Risandhy, S.Ds., M.Ds.

Student Coordinator and Lecturer of Department of Visual Communication Design

Rifki Risandhy, S.Ds., M.Ds. completed his master's degree in design (master's degree information not specified, can be added if available). He began his professional career as a graphic design practitioner in 2009 at Global TV, then continued as a Motion Graphics Designer at Metro TV in 2011. His teaching career began in 2013 as an instructor at SMK Multimedia & Animation Bina Informatika Bintaro. Since 2015, he has been actively serving as a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design program at Tarumanagara University and Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang. In 2023, he joined as a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design program at Pembangunan Jaya University.

His research interests include the development of motion graphics, animation, digital art, and the exploration of technology's role in the creative process, particularly artificial intelligence in the world of art and design. His works are documented through various publications, such as the development of motion graphics videos for Jaipong dance art, the design of 2D and 3D animated films themed around the diversity of Indonesian batik, and studies on the challenges and opportunities of using Artificial Intelligence Art for graphic designers. He also researches the impact of AI in design through motion graphics media. In addition to writing, Rifki has participated in international video art exhibitions, such as the RE:KARYA International Video Festival (2023) with his work titled “The Chaos of Beauty.” Through his academic and artistic works, he highlights the dynamics between technology, creativity, and contemporary visual culture

Tommi, S.Ds., M.Ds.

Secretary and Lecturer of Department of Visual Communication Design

Tommi, S.Ds., M.Ds. completed his master's degree in design at Trisakti University after earning a bachelor's degree in Visual Communication Design from the Indonesian Computer University. With over a decade of experience as a graphic designer and art director, he has collaborated with various major brands such as Halodoc, XL Axiata, BINUS Group, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, Morinaga-Kino, Bali United, and AirAsia. Since 2021, he has been actively teaching at Bunda Mulia University and Pembangunan Jaya University.

His research interests focus on visual branding, semiotics, and brand humanization in the context of promotions and campaigns. His publications explore logos as representations of social values, redesigning campaign media for youth education, and semiotics analysis in visual identity. He examines how visual strategies can shape perceptions, values, and emotional connections between brands and their audiences.

Desi Dwi Kristanto, S.Ds., M.Ds.

Dean of Faculty of Technology & Design and Lecturer of Department of Visual Communication Design

Desi Dwi Kristanto, S.Ds., M.Ds.began his academic career as an Assistant Lecturer in the Product Design Study Program at the Bandung Institute of Technology (2006–2010), then joined the Visual Communication Design Study Program at Multimedia Nusantara University as a permanent lecturer in 2011. At that institution, he served as Head of the Program (2012) and Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Design (2013). Since December 2017, he has been a lecturer and Head of the Visual Communication Design Program at Universitas Pembangunan Jaya.

His primary interests include 3D animation, interaction design, and design and entrepreneurship. His research covers various themes such as visual effects in animated films, virtual item trading in online games, parenting app design, social campaign media development, and graphic design for the empowerment of SMEs and local products. He is also actively involved in community service projects and interdisciplinary collaborations, particularly those focused on design innovation in the context of education, culture, and the creative economy.

Lecturer of Department of Visual Communication Design

Achmad Nur Kholis, S.Sn., M.Sn. is a graduate of the Fine Arts Study Program with a focus on art studies. He pursued his master's degree at the Postgraduate Fine Arts Study Program at Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta, with a concentration in history and culture studies. His academic background has fostered a strong interest in teaching, research, and community service, particularly in the fields of art, design, and culture.

He has extensive experience in art studies through research and the development of knowledge based on local wisdom. This interest is reflected in his participation in various seminars and national and international publications highlighting art aesthetics, traditional arts, culture, and local wisdom values that can be developed across disciplines.

Muhammad Tafakur , S. Ds. , M.Ds.

Lecturer of Department of Visual Communication Design

Muhammad Tafakur is a graphic designer and illustrator with nearly six years of experience in the creative and corporate industries. Currently, he serves as a lecturer at Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ), where he shares his expertise in visual communication and design.

His work and research focus on ethical visual storytelling and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in visual communication design. He is also actively involved in the development of environmental graphic design, user interface/user experience (UI/UX) design, and illustration. Through a collaborative and exploratory approach, Muhammad Tafakur continues to push the boundaries of visual creativity within the context of technology and contemporary social issues.

Afusa Nidya Kinasih, S.Sn. M.Sn.

Lecturer of Department of Visual Communication Design

Afusa Nindya is a lecturer in Visual Communication Design with special expertise in photography and visual research. Her primary academic focus includes developing photography teaching methods, exploring visual media, and conducting research related to photography, film, visual culture, and social media.
